If you want to love your style, feel confident and look effortlessly put together every day then there’s only one lesson you need to learn deep down in your soul.
People have a lot of very strange and arbitrary rules for themselves when it comes to style. “I can’t wear this becaaaaauuusssee……”
Mom or auntie or granny or magazine told me so, therefore it must be true. Nonsense! There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about having good style that can hold us back. These beliefs keep us feeling less than.
To find out what the #1 lesson is, watch today’s video – especially at minute 1:43 I really break it down for you.
You deserve to show up in the world.
Maybe you’ve felt like disappearing or playing it small because of some hard stuff in your past so you let those old beliefs, myths, and stories keep you small. I get it. Trust me. I’ve been there.
One of the things I most often hear from my clients and customers is that “dressing up” or “overdressing” is a real fear that keeps them from showing up in a way that truly makes them happy. Maybe you’re afraid that if you look good and get attention from people they will think you’re stuck up. Or you think – that they think – you’re dressing to get attention…which means something bad about you.
Let me share this important quote with you.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
You might not be at your ideal weight or “perfect body”, but that shouldn’t stop you from feeling confident or being seen. The more you act as if you have confidence the more you really begin to feel confident. And confidence comes from action. Soon, you won’t be withholding nice things from yourself like that dress or coat you’ve been eyeing or a date night out with yourself, friends, or lover.
The thing about good style is that stays with you through any season of life. Babies, no babies, working from home, or working corporate, traveling or just going to the grocery store, ideal weight or not.
Before I can teach you the “clothing” part of good style this is the first lesson I need you to internalize. Your confidence comes from within, not from without. And you’re beautiful as you are now and you’re meant to show up and enjoy the beautiful gift of life.
