When it’s hot outside you may not feel like wearing makeup. With all the products we are encouraged to use, it can feel like by the end of a sunny day your face is melting off. Oil, zits, and sweating just make the whole affair a pain in the butt.
Watch today’s video to learn about my easy organic and minimalist summer makeup routine. With only 5 products you can create a lovely, fresh-faced organic and minimalist summer makeup routine for yourself!
I’ve been using natural, organic, and affordable skin care products for 10+ years now. Thanks to my post-college job at Whole Foods, I was introduced to all the best healing, preventative, and luxurious organic beauty products on the market. After ten years of research, trial and error I can safely say I know what works, what doesn’t and what you really need in your makeup kit to do the job.
Embrace your imperfections
Summer is not the time to be worrying about covering every little zit up. Breakouts happen more in the summertime because of all the sweat building up in our pours. The last thing you want to do is add more to an already stressed out situation. Just let it be this summer.
Whenever I get a breakout I leave it alone. Usually, the only thing I’ll do is put a tiny dab of tea tree oil on it, wash my face, and use my tinted SPF moisturizer from Juice Beauty as a base layer. Then I’ll gently apply a tiny bit of concealer from Au Naturale to the top of the zit.
Everyone has imperfections so just embrace yours. Skin isn’t perfect so don’t get caught up in the idea that yours has to be like flawlessly airbrushed porcelain.

Less is more
If you tend to want to cover up any breakouts, try using less foundation than you normally would. Less makeup is a great idea. Don’t worry about looking less “made up”. A lot of makeup on the market is loaded with heavy metals and toxins that actually age you.
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Keep it easy and simple. Use fewer products to make your life less complicated. Minimalist summer makeup is about using fewer products in more creative ways.
Healthy skin starts with what you eat
In reality, healthy skin starts with what you eat and drink. Stick with organic foods, clean filtered water and avoid skin irritating processed foods that are loaded with sugars, oils, and preservatives.
The best advice I could ever give is to drink at least 2 liters of clean, filtered water a day. Your skin will literally glow.
Organic makeup products I use
The first item in the makeup roundup is my Juice Beauty SPF Tinted Moisturizer. This isn’t a BB or CC cream, it’s a light-weight tinted moisturizer that goes on very smoothly. I use the color Sand and the sunscreen is titanium dioxide. So there is a bit of white that appears initially. But work it in and you should see it disappear immediately.
If you hate titanium dioxide and want something that doesn’t leave any white residue, I recommend checking out Super Goop SPF 50. It’s totally transparent and you can work it in effortlessly with zero white residues.
Another important thing to mention is that the Juice Beauty SPF is non-nano. A lot of makeup companies are using nanotechnology in their products which scares the living daylights out of me.
I’ve started using this foundation sample from Au Naturale in Biscay that my friend Sarah told me about and I am loving it. It’s very sheer plant-based makeup that I use more like a concealer than a full-faced foundation. Like I said, there’s no need for that when you’ve got clear skin.
I won’t even mention the name of the blush that I use because it is not organic and/or natural. But I will say this, you need to be aware that many body-care, skin care, and makeup products use triclosan as an antibacterial agent. This really isn’t great for your health or skin. Organic products use things like Vitamin C and other naturally occurring elements to keep items fresh and bacteria free.
For my lips, I’ve been using this RMS Lip Shine in the color Sacred for over a year now. I love it more than words can say. It’s a value purchase even though it runs around $25 dollars for one small pot. However, this has lasted me over a year and it will most likely last me till early or mid next year. The plant pigments are strong so you need only the littlest bit to give a blast of bright hydrating color.
And finally, where would I be without my Dr. Hauschka! I’ve been using two products on repeat from Hauschka for about 10 years now and they have really continued to please me. One is the ultra luxurious Lip Care Stick and the other is the Defining Mascara in black.
What I love about these products is that they are non-toxic, are not tested on animals and last a long time before you have to re-purchase. The mascara smells like roses and never ever leaves clumps on my lashes or makes my eyes water or burn!
Be sure to check the toxicity of all of your products on the Environmental Working Group’s website Skin Deep. You can check everything for a rating. This is especially helpful if you have little kiddos or are pregnant or nursing.
I hope this has really helped you! You can have a fresh face all summer long with this easy organic summer makeup routine!

Bri: I love your videos! It looked to me like you had some eye shadow on as well. You didn’t mention it. I’m going to look for your mascara brand. I love my Mary Kay botanical effects moisturizer==they call it a hydrate. I can’t tell what’s in it.
How do I access your blog?
I would like to find a make up that will lightly cover my age spots now that I’m getting older.

Hi Christine!
I’m so glad to know they’re helpful. Thanks for watching. I wasn’t wearing eyeshadow, but in the video, I was using the blush I was putting on as a “highlighter” on the ridge of my eye socket. The blush I’m using has a shimmer to it so it kind of works like a highlighter. Definitely check out Mary Kay on The Environmental Working Group’s cosmetic database to see how it rates for safety.
A great product I highly recommend is the foundation I’m using in the video from Au Naturale. It is sheer enough to look natural but still offers a good cover. Also, check out the CC cream from Juice Beauty.

Lovely, I enjoyed this very much. I will check out the makeup you recommend. I believe the same about what you eat as well. I don’t usually wear any makeup but sometimes it would be nice. Thank you Brianna. Love and blessings, Hanna

Oh, Thanks Hanna!
I’m really glad you enjoyed it. Makeup is nice little treat. I like to keep mine simple because I don’t want to become so accustomed to my face with makeup that I dislike the way I look without makeup. You know? So a clean healthy face is always best!
XO,
Bri
