Mike and I recently celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary. It’s crazy to think we’ve been together for so long. In many ways, time flew by, especially this last year.
And as we begin another year together, we also look forward to Mike starting a new position as a Firefighter with the city of Knoxville. He’s been with a county department and this move to the city is a big step for him.
We took the time between old and new jobs to do some major decluttering and home improvements which involved a trip to IKEA to find a sofa. Our current sofa was never meant to be permanent and we’ve been stuck with an old loveseat from Facebook Marketplace for years now. #couchsaga
The IKEA store in my state is actually a bit of hike, so we decided to hit the one in Charlotte, North Carolina. I wasn’t sure what to expect because of the COVID crisis. But we made it an adventure, nonetheless.
Let me tell you, it was NOT at all what we expected. However, you simply have to roll with it because, why not? “Don’t feel bad about anything ever”, is my new motto.
Once we got home it was basically time to figure out what we were going to do for our wedding anniversary. Tennessee has a mask mandate but a lot of businesses and restaurants remain open and that is a nice thing. Mike surprised me with a dinner date at a super fancy restaurant that I’ve been wanting to try out.
All he told me was that I needed a new dress a few days before the date. Oops! And as I don’t really wear dresses, I was on a mission to find something cute, affordable, and available in my city.
All in all, it was the most perfect evening and I’m so lucky that I got to spend it with my best friend. Marriage is not for the faint of heart. Life is not perfect or easy for anyone. Mike and I have had our challenges through the years but I couldn’t be more thankful that we’ve stuck it out and worked through it.
My best piece of advice, not that you’re asking, is that you try your best to see things from another person’s perspective. Put yourself in their shoes, seek counseling for yourself, and be compassionate and kind.
That’s all for now.
Follow along as I take with you with us to IKEA while we hunt for a couch and declutter our home. And finally, get ready with me and join Mike and me as we celebrate our 11th year of marriage. Towards the end of the vlog, I break down my look and share a new makeup product I’m simply dying over.
Thanks so much for being here! See you next week.
