One of the main questions and comments I get from my styling clients is how to look put together. “I want to look put together.”
Creating chic outfits that make you feel put together is simple. It really comes down to using a few styling tips and wardrobe recommendations so that when you get ready, you’re not wondering what to wear or if it looks good on you.
Today, we’re going to be talking all about how to always look chic and put together. Plus, I’m going to be sharing some chic style outfit inspiration both on the blog, on my YouTube channel, and on Instagram.
Today’s post is sponsored by luxury clothing brand, Lily Silk.

When I began doing this collaboration with Lily Silk, I went on their website and I was blown away at the number of options that they offer. There are so many unique, beautiful pieces from outerwear to basics to sleepwear, lingerie, even shoes, and accessories.r
There were so many lovely options that I’ve created a Pinterest board for you to go shop from. I chose a cashmere turtleneck sweater in black and a silk slip dress, also in black, because these are two staple pieces that I’ve been dying to get in my wardrobe so that I can always look chic and put together.
Using these two pieces I’ve styled four different outfits for my YouTube video. Two outfits feature the turtleneck and two outfits, the slip dress. Over on Instagram, you can see 4 more looks I’ve styled using these two pieces from Lily Silk.
So let’s get into my tips on how to always look chic and put together. It’s so simple and it’s so easy. Anyone can do this.
Choose the highest quality you can
My first tip for you is obviously in reference to Lily Silk, which is to choose the highest quality materials, fabrics, and pieces that you can because they make a huge difference in how things feel on your body and work within your wardrobe.
When you have high-quality garments, whether you pay full price for them, get them secondhand on The Real Real, Depop, Vestiaire, or the thrift store, the quality and construction are what really matter. Right off the bat, you know that a well-made garment or accessory is doing so much work on your behalf.
Style yourself up and choose fun
My second tip for you is to style yourself up and don’t be afraid to go for the fun accessories. Step outside of your comfort zone a little. Choose pieces that are statement pieces that do a lot for your outfit. While at times, choosing less is more, sometimes more is great too.
Try to stick within that unified color palette you have. But don’t be afraid to add accessories to your outfit, it’s just fashion! If you end up feeling uncomfortable later, you can always take something off.
Choose strong solid colors
In the second look, you can see the top is still the same, but I’ve got some really strong color blending happening here. The black mixed with the khaki, mixed with the red, mixed with the Indigo of the denim is just so strong and so beautiful.
This is still a very chic and put together look, but there’s no print. There’s no pattern.
It’s just chic statement pieces with minimal accessories. I think that you can transition something as simple as a black turtleneck into so many different looks.
Color-blocking, two-tone, or duo-chromatic looks
Similar to the previous tip where you’re choosing strong solid colors, this tip is to choose just two colors for the entire outfit.
This could be as simple as throwing on a lightweight, flowy trench coat over the top of an all-white or all-black look, though it doesn’t have to be all white or all black.
I really love this look because it’s elegant and sexy, but it’s covered up. If you wanted to make this a little less sexy, I would say size up in your slip dress so it hugs fewer of your curves.
The accessories are very minimal, but again, I’m using that color blocking to really draw out the effect of this look. It’s really not a complicated look, but you can see how chic and put together it is.
Use the same piece, but in a different way
With the next look, you can see that it’s the exact same idea; the outfit is exactly the same, but now I’m playing with the proportions of the dress by hiking it up slightly over my hips and adding a belt around the waist.
Pull the excess fabric up and create a shorter looking dress by cinching it with a waist belt.
It’s almost like wearing a cami and a skirt and by doing this I’m getting more wear or use out of one garment.
In conclusion
To always look chic and put together, it’s really about having high-quality pieces, accessorizing a little more than you might normally, sticking to simple colorways, playing with tones like monochrome and duotone, and restyling items in unconventional ways.
I would really recommend choosing a handful of colors to mix and match into your wardrobe so that everything works harmoniously, but never dampen your unique taste and personality. Add in details that only you would.
As you saw, I used Indigo from the denim, cream, black, red, and navy. It just all came together and worked so well. But I do have other colors in my wardrobe that don’t fall into this palette that I still love and wear on a regular basis.
Some of these pieces were pre-loved. Some of them were new. Some of them are from the high street, but they’re all really chic. They’re all really simple. And when you put them together, they do the work for you. It’s just as simple as putting the clothes on, once you select them, and making sure that they’re the highest quality that you can possibly afford.
Don’t forget to head over to my Instagram so you can see how I styled these pieces in four different ways.
And again, thank you so much to Lily Silk for sponsoring today’s video. This was absolutely a dream come true. It was such a joy.
