As I write to you it is now 16 days till my upcoming trip to Paris. I’m getting butterflies in my stomach. There’s still so much to do. I need to do a test run of my wardrobe. I need to do a test pack to see how it all fits in my carry-on suit case. I still need to buy a few last-minute practical items like a travel umbrella. And I need to breathe!
But with all this packing and styling and shopping you might be wondering, what am I intentionally NOT bringing with me to Paris.
After all, smart girls don’t overpack and they never check a bag.
If you want to avoid looking like a tourist in Europe for your upcoming trip then here’s what not to wear in Paris this year in 2019.
I’m going to be breaking this down by category beginning with overall style philosophy, bottoms, outerwear, footwear, accessories, and beauty.
But I’m assuming you always want to look chic and feel you’re most confident.
The good news is, I think you’ll appreciate these French style tips and feel more confident and comfortable when you visit.
Good style is being able to follow rules while also knowing how to break them.
As mentioned in the video, I have that new free resource for you that will give my exact packing list for Paris for 10 days.
Download it below and let me know am I forgetting any Parisian style secrets? I’m all ears. Leave me a comment.

Great video Bri! Just a little comment about blending in. You can dress so you don’t stick out like I did arriving in the 70’s in a orange neon orange polyester pants suit! Yes, I actually did this. I never wore it again. But they will still know you are an American. It’s the way you carry yourself. After living there for so long even we could identify what country people were from with out talking to them. Be yourself and don’t be overly concerned about fitting in. You won’t totally be able to do that. A must is a money belt you wear under your clothes with passport always on you and cash or cards. I wouldn’t go to Paris today without that. Recently a good friend had $1200 stolen from being pick pocketed. Even with a zipped bag. A cross over bag in the front is better in my opinion. Say Mike carries a flat money belt under his clothes and your passport and large amounts of money on him, a zipped handbag is ok. I know I’m being extra cautious. That comes from not only living in France but from international travel in other parts of the world. Always carry hand sanitizer. Be prepared to pay to use public restrooms. You did an amazing job of research. Your ideas will work perfectly. You will look appropriate and will not stick out, but they will still know you are American. Be proud of that! Even Mike living in France all those years never looked French. He just doesn’t have the build. He had a John Wayne swagger when he walked to school. Our neighbors called him, Le petit Reagan. Of course he wore a cowboy hat! We love you and can’t wait to hear all about your trip. On other piece of advice, be flexible. Even your well planned trip might include unexpected changes. Go with the flow. It’s not wrong it’s just different! ❤️
