One of the things that really confuses me about the way we approach skincare in the United States is that we address the topical problems, but avoid addressing what the root problems could be. And if you struggle with acne like I did in the past, then you are going to find this so helpful because it reveals the exact meathods I’ve used for over 10 years to heal my skin naturally from the inside out.
I healed my skin from the inside out
When I was in high school, I had very bad skin. And even in my early twenties, I struggled to have healthy skin. I would get breakouts in the same spots and had huge pores on my nose and cheeks. I would have these routine breakouts in the same places all the time and would wonder why am I getting my breakouts.
The skin is a part of your immune system. It’s actually the biggest part of your immune system. And when you look at the face, especially in Chinese medicine, you can see that the face has a certain relationship to different organs in the body.
You can have beautiful, clear, glowing skin naturally and you can look younger than your age, naturally. You don’t have to use a ton of expensive products and you don’t have to get procedures to look young. Having healthy skin requires a few specific habits that you adopt as a part of your lifestyle. Do these habits over and over again, consistently, for a long period of time and you will see your skin transform.
In one of my previous videos, I talk about how I’ve been using natural and organic skincare for 10 years.
You can change the look of your skin just by what you eat and how you live your life. So I’m going to share some of those things with you to help you out.
Ditch all conventional skin and body care products
The first and most important thing when it comes to having healthy skin, which seems really obvious, is to switch to all organic, non-toxic, cruelty-free, absolutely clean skincare. That is crucial. Because you don’t want to keep adding things on top of your skin that will create more toxicity in your body.
If you want to dive deeper into this topic with me, I actually created a free resource for you.
It’s a very short guide called ‘Healthy Skin 101’ and it’s going to dive a little bit deeper into some of the topics I was mentioning earlier and what you can do about it.
Make sure that you replace literally anything that touches your skin with a natural and organic alternative. Your skin absorbs everything that you put on it. So if you are using nail polish, any kind of makeup, soap, deodorant, shampoo or anything that comes into contact with your body, make sure that it is toxin free. No artificial dyes, chemicals, flavorings, no heavy metals, sanitizers, lathering agents or anything like that because it will add up.
Women absorb 5 pounds of chemicals per year just from their skincare. That blows my mind. Let’s stop using toxic chemicals on our skin.
A couple of holistic skincare brands I love are Evan Healy, which is a wonderful resource for acne and Rosacea. Please go check them out. They have beautiful stuff. I’m also a huge fan of Juice Beauty which is great for skin repair and anti-aging.
Foods to heal your skin
Now let’s talk about some lifestyle things that you can do. You will want to eat extremely healthy foods.
Foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals, especially minerals like magnesium and all the b vitamins which are found in the hair, skin and nail supplements. Things like honey and nutritional yeast, Kale, Collard Greens, Swiss Chard, anything that is dark and leafy, sweet potatoes, organic root vegetables, and foods that have healthy fats.
Almonds, for example, are really rich in vitamin E and Collagen. Collagen and vitamin E are wonderful at helping to boost the skin’s natural appearance and help to restore any kind of damage that was done to the skin, as well as reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
I also take a supplement called E3Live. I take the pill form almost daily and I do that because I can’t always eat as many Greens as I need to support healthy skin. E3Live, technically a superfood, is a blue-green algae and is a “go-to” supplement for me. It helps increase my energy when I’m feeling low on and helps to keep my skin clear.
Hydrate with super clean water
This one is going to trip you up and I know it is, but I’m not even lying when I say that I drink around three liters of water a day. Sometimes more. Yes. I drink three liters of water a day and it’s not a struggle for me at all.
One of the first things I do when I wake up is, brush my teeth and then I fill up my water bottle. I reuse a 1.5-liter water bottle and refill it twice. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon. After I have my coffee made, I sit down, drink my water and coffee at the same time, journal and do my morning devotions.
I’ve developed this habit over years so don’t worry if you can’t drink that much water right now.
The water I drink is reverse osmosis, oxygenated and alkaline water, which helps to cleanse my system, helps my cells to flush out any toxins and just keeps my skin super fresh and super hydrated.
Exercise is the fountain of youth
Exercise really is the fountain of youth and although I’m not a crazy exercise nut, I do get outside daily.
My exercise consists of walking my dog around the park and doing some really basic high-intensity interval training. I don’t love working out, it’s always been a struggle for me. Coming from Chicago where the workout was built into the city, I never had to work out to be fit or healthy. When I moved to the south where everyone uses a car to get around, I found that it was really difficult for me to adapt my thinking to working out.
That’s why I like HIIT workouts because they’re short and sweet and the benefits are huge.
Beauty sleep
The last thing I want to talk about is sleep. Sleep is so important for your body to detoxify itself. I can’t emphasize that enough. But getting high-quality sleep is very hard for a lot of people, including myself sometimes.
I struggle with sleeping now more than I ever have, but it’s a battle that we need to never give up on because sleep is crucial not only for your brain health but also for your overall health. When they say “beauty sleep” it really is true. You need to get 7 – 9 hours of sleep, depending on your constitution, to make sure that your skin and your entire body have a chance to detoxify, recharge and restore.
In conclusion
I take pride in the fact that I use basic products that are simple, clean, and organic. Having healthy skin doesn’t have to cost you a lot of money or time.
If you struggle with acne, wrinkles, or Rosacea there are so many great resources for you out there. Keep hunting. Everything that I use, I’ve been using for years and heartily recommend.
Make sure to get that guide, please don’t forget. It will really help you heal your skin from the inside and out.
