Day 4 – How To Save Time & Money Grocery Shopping
This is day 4 of a 7 day challenge which is an excerpt from my upcoming ebook.

First off, let me say that everyone’s budget is extremely unique. So don’t get stuck on the number.
Grocery shopping can be annoying. You may find yourself doing last minute shopping, spending more than you thought, and forgetting things you needed. Or you might get trapped in shopping mode, aimlessly wandering through the store wondering what to get and buying whatever looks good.
I’m a bargain shopper. I like deals. I don’t use coupons, but I do know how to hunt down the best prices. My husband and I spend $80 – 90 a week on all organic groceries. That’s $320 – $360 a month.
How much do you spend on groceries? Do you set a budget monthly for groceries only?
Like work expands to the time given, so a budget expands the resources given. Set the amount and stick to it.
Ellen’s Story
“When my husband and I sat down to review our 2016 budget, we realized that we had spent around $12,000 on groceries.
The reason we were spending so much money on food is we almost never went with a list and paid with our debit card. We rarely even looked at the price of things and bought what we felt we needed.Using Brianna’s tip on going to the grocery store with the amount of cash that we budgeted for that week has really changed our life.
She challenged us to cut our spending in half for 2017, saving us over $6,000 this year if we stick the plan she recommended. All in all it hasn’t been hard because of the things she’s also taught us about eating. I only wish I would have done this sooner.”
Here’s how it’s done:
Step One
Pick one day a week where you know that grocery shopping is going will fit in your schedule. I go every Monday after my Chiropractors appointment from 4:00 – 6:00. I do all my shopping for the week in these two hours.
Step Two
Create your shopping list. in the back of my book I’ll be including the shopping list that I personally use plus a few recipes. To save $$.
Step Three
Pick the amount of money that you’re going to spend a week. Pull out that amount of money (ex: $80) before you go to the grocery store every week. If you can’t get to the bank or an ATM that your bank offers, by 1 small item that’s under a dollar and pull out the maximum amount of cash you need to do your grocery shopping.
I know this seems silly but trust me it works. Commit to this and you will save thousands of dollars per year. Once you have your cash you’re going to shop based only upon what is on the list trying to keep a mental note of how much money you’re already spending.
What does Bri Buy? My sneak peek at my list.
Over time, you’ll nail it. You’ll buy items that fit the budget and the way you cook. I know you probably have a ton of questions about what I buy and what I cook. It’s fairly simple. Since I focus on eating two solid meals per day with little to no snacking and a light supper if I’m hungry, here what I typically buy:
beans, two kinds of kale, collard greens, rice, quinoa, maple syrup, peanut butter, almond milk, organic ice cream, tea, coffee, avocados, apples, bananas, almonds, walnuts, ezekiel bread and more things.
But that’s just a quick look.
Places to shop:
- Trader Joe’s
- Aldi
- Whole Foods
- Kroger or Your Regional National grocery chain
- Your Local Co-Operative aka Food Co-Op
- Your Local Farmer’s Market
In my book I give my exact shopping list and some key recipes to get you going to save time and money.
See you tomorrow!
