High-waisted black trousers are very trendy right now, but they’re actually a classic capsule wardrobe item for fall and winter. I myself have been on the hunt for a pair for a while now.
They do so much heavy lifting in any wardrobe. When you fill in the gaps of your wardrobe with those key basics, you’ll feel like you can style any outfit you need.
Today I’m showing you 3 ways to style black trousers so you can get the most out of your capsule wardrobe pieces.
If you’ve been looking for black trousers outfit ideas, or dress pants outfit ideas then you will appreciate this short and sweet video.
Many of the pieces styled in each of the 3 looks are secondhand. However, I recently added a beautiful pair of black pleated trousers to my wardrobe from the Cyber Monday ASOS sale. Along with the trousers, I decided to try out a trench coat from the sale as well. If you’re a long-time viewer then you know my search for the perfect trench coat has been ongoing.
My deciding factor in getting both the pants and the trench coat was that they needed to be a classic fit without any trendy design features and made from durable and wearable materials.
My fashion goals for 2022 are to focus more on adding in the classic basics so I can style more outfits without relying so much on jeans. I’m forever a denim girl but I do want more options.
Black Trousers
The black trousers I’m wearing are from & Other Stories that I got during Cyber Monday from ASOS. Here’s how I decided on the fit. & Other Stories is a go-to for me when looking for well-fitting denim. I think I have at least 4 pairs of jeans from & Other Stories. When I saw these black trousers from the same brand pop up in a search on the ASOS website, I knew I should give them a go.
I’m an hourglass shape and tall, but I don’t have the longest inseam. The length seemed good to me and the rise of the trousers was high enough to give me the shape I’m looking for. I personally don’t want anything mid-rise or loose around the waist.
The pants are heavier weight and could be confused for wool. But they are in fact a synthetic blend of recycled polyester and viscose. Not my favorite, but it is very durable and wearable.
When looking for black trousers for your body shape and size, consider the rise, material, and pant leg shape. Do you want it more cropped or tapered? A pencil leg shape is super cute. Or could you go more mid-rise and a wider, longer pant leg?

Getting more out of your wardrobe
A couple of weeks ago, I created a poll on YouTube and Instagram asking what you wanted to see from me in 2022. I offered 5 options. 2 ebooks, 2 workshops, and 1-1 virtual styling. The clear front runner with over 50% of the votes was the French Capsule Wardrobe ebook.
So as requested by you, I’ve finally launched my French Capsule Wardrobe e-book! WOOOO!
There are 80 outfits, shopping links, and a style questionnaire section to help you determine your style. It took me over 30 hours to make and I’m so, so excited to share this helpful resource with you. My goal in creating the ebook was to help you see French style in a new light. It’s more modern and eclectic than your typical stripes and jeans outfits.
In the ebook, I help you figure out your own personal style. There’s a style questionnaire section that helps you put words to what your style actually is and I give you a section to journal as well.
I break down the complete wardrobe checklist, give you photos of each item so you can see examples of what I mean, and offer 80 unique outfit combinations that will inspire you to recreate these looks for yourself.
My hope is that this ebook helps you feel more inspired to get the most out of your wardrobe and feel more confident in your own skin.
